During my trainings and coaching sessions, leaders often ask me the question "How will we manage the new generation, we are having difficulties".
As a Generation X, I see the needs of Generation Z as follows:
1. Knowing the purpose at her/his job
2. Knowing the value of her/his contribution
3. Being seen and appreciated for what s/he does.
4. Improve with feedback instead of repeating themselves
5. Not to stand still in her/his career, to know career steps and speed up.
6. To be supported by mentoring and coaching
7. Autonomy, that is, allowing one to take initiative in areas appropriate to one's competence and potential.
8. Flexibility in every sense (time, method, clothing, form of communication, etc.) instead of rigid patterns.
9. Sustainability in every sense (not only environmental, but also social, financial, technological)
10. Work life integration
If there is anything I missed, please let me know
When I read these needs, I want all of them as a X too.
A confession: I was not this clear about communicating these needs to the other party in my business life. I find it very valuable that the new generation challenges the current system. It's time for us to start RELEARNING
Many of these topics are within the leader's circle of impact, so we can respond to these needs.
2024 just around the corner and motivation is an important topic that we consider for ourselves and our teams.
My question is; which of these 10 topics will be in your radar for managing your team including generation Z?
